Egyptian Zodiac at Dendra

This is a cosmogram of the Egyptian Zodiac at Hathor’s temple of Dendra in Egypt. Painted on the ceiling of the temple such Zodiac’s were not only depictions of the movements of the night sky through time, and "snapshots" of a particular period in time (this is said to be the night sky in 1400 BCE) but also a means of embodying the zodiac within one’s own body. Esoteric groups also used zodiac cosmograms as "timewheels" navigation devises to move through time and space. The Dreamtime paintings of the Australian Aborigines offer "road maps" into the landscape of the time before time. For the Aboriginals, as with many indigenous people who lived close to the land, features of the physical landscape were experienced as doorways into the timeless mystery or gateways into parallel dimensions and worlds.
