An inspiration of Grace. Walking the Labyrinths at Grace Cathedral

The Labyrinth is an archetype, a divine imprint, found in all religious traditions in various forms around the world. By walking a replica of the Chartres labyrinth, laid in the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France around 1220, we are rediscovering a long-forgotten mystical tradition that is insisting to be reborn. The labyrinth has only one path so there are no tricks to it and no dead ends. The path winds throughout and becomes a mirror for where we are in our lives. It touches our sorrows and releases our joys. Walk it with an open mind and an open heart.

In a time when collective participation in the institutions of religion and government is waning, people are seeking tangible ways to understand the larger picture, and to feel empowered in its unfolding. Art remains as one realm capable not only of holding the full range of human experience but also of facilitating the free expression of that range. Through making and observing art, we can begin to make sense of our rapidly evolving, media-centric culture. Art allows us to learn from the past while being grounded in the present, building towards a sustainable future. Art chronicles our times, and in so doing, shapes them.

HoloCosmos was selected to create poster designs for the event. We used the "Dromenon" labyrinth element from the floor of Grace Cathedral and Chartres in France, as a unifying symbolic element.

The Art Chronicles is an experiential forum for the creation and exploration of culture within the breathtaking yet accessible sacred space of Grace Cathedral, which openly considers itself a place of worship for all people. The Bay Area comes together and participates in an activated exchange of ideas, art, music, and community, involving everyone present in the dynamic process of co-creating culture.
